Girl Scouts/Brownies
Welcome!
Girl Scouting at St. Mary
Mission Statement: to help girls grow to be caring, competent, and confident women.
Focus: to foster growth in a multitude of areas including service, outdoor/nature, the arts, fellowship/sisterhood, and life skills.
Organizational Structure: St. Mary has troops from Kindergarten (Daisies) through Grade 7 (Cadettes).
Daisies typically meet once a month and do activities like crafts, songs, and games. The focus of Daisies is to get to know each other and get introduced to Scouting.
Brownies – the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Grade troops – usually meet twice a month after school and begin to earn badges. These badges reinforce the Girl Scout focus described above. They may also go camping or have overnights at places like the Zoo. And, of course, they sell COOKIES!
The 4th, 5th, and 6th Grade troops are in Juniors, and above Juniors are Cadettes. Their badges are more complex than Brownies, and the Juniors and Cadettes often help plan their own meetings, which are twice/month. They also have more extensive service projects.
Multi-Troop Activities: All the Girl Scout Troops at St. Mary School get together at least once/season for an activity. In the Fall, we have the Mother-Daughter Brunch and Card Party (in November) and the Winterfest (in December); in the Winter/Spring we have the Father-Daughter Square Dance (in March); and in the late Spring (May) we have the Awards Ceremony. Please see the calendar for more information.
New Volunteers/Members: New volunteers are always welcome and training is available. Please feel free to contact one of the leaders if you are interested in volunteering or being a member of the Girl Scouts.
